Rather than put my caladium bulbs in soil this year, I merely tucked them into the layer of mulch. They performed beautifully! However, as I went to dig them up, as usual, I only discovered tiny pieces or roots not worth keeping over the winter. Why is this? My elephant ear (colocasia) bulbs grow and mutlitply so nicely?

Caladiums? Why do the bulbs rot?
That one was probably in too much water.
