Can anyone tell me why my elephant ears have brown spots on them?

This is the second year I planted these bulbs. I planted them in 3 different spots in the yard. Two of them are doing great and look beautiful. But the one group has a lot of brown spots on them. Can you help?

Reply:I always thought that was the cinamon. I love it when they put extra butter and sugar on mine.
Reply:From your description I suspect you have a fungus. Elephant ears like shady areas, but they don't like getting wet on top. If you water with a sprinkler, try cutting back. Alternatively, switch to irrigating just the ground.

You don't need to spend a lot of money on drip irrigation. There are inexpensive soaker hoses made from recycled rubber that you can buy at just about any home and garden center which connect to any regular garden hose and you lay them on the ground. Water sort of sweats out of the hose instead of spraying out, which may make your elephant ears happier.

You may also buy some fungicide powder, but keep in mind that that only cures the symptoms (fungus), and does not deal with the cause (wet leaves).
